115m Off Hall Lane, Staveley, Chesterfield Installed on the entrance road leading to the (nowadays) largely derelict Staveley Works site stand three 8 m steel columns; each supports a Thorn Alpha 1 90 Watt SOX lantern. At the time of writing (July 2015), all three lanterns are in excellent condition, with none of them displaying signs of any water ingress whatsoever. I am not sure whether the lanterns are still operational after nightfall, however, as the piece of land to the right of this access road was vacated by owners Covidien towards the end of 2012.

Some superficial dirt is present on the lower side of the "Opticell's" exterior; this could easily be cleaned off. The positioning of the grub screws that secure the lantern suggest that these could be later Alpha 1s, dating from the mid-1980s.

A close-up of the other two Alpha 1s now; both look as clean as the first does.
