Spotted on Sunday, 11th January 2009 on Duffield Road in Darley Abbey.

What I think happened: This is yet another column to fall victim to a road traffic accident. The road has a 30mph speed limit, however judging by the damage to the column and lantern, I would suggest that the vehicle involved may have been travelling faster than this! The column itself is a 10m Stewart and Lloyd. The lantern's canopy survived the collision, although the same cannot be said for the bowl or the canopy/shoe connection - the shoe still remains attached to the bracket! Also damaged in this collision was an adjacent sign advertising a nearby business - nothing escapes lightly...as it were!
