The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 7th August 2011:
A 10m column supporting a Thorn Alpha 4 135W SOX lantern was first from Friar Gate. The replacement 6m column here is dwarfed by its taller outgoing equivalent!
Happily, the Alpha 4 was saved, and now resides in another collection.
The replacement Iridium runs a 60W CPO-TW lamp.
The next new column was installed opposite the next outgoing column.
A top-entry Thorn Beta 5 35W SOX lantern was attached to this column.
Although a NEMA photocell socket was fitted to this lantern, it had been blanked off, out of use.
The final new and old columns on this road returned to being installed alongside each other. The Beta 5 was dayburning at the time of photographing.
Again, this lantern featured a disconnected NEMA socket; suggesting that both this and the previous installation were group-switched from elsewhere.
The new lighting is individually switched, however. One of the two grub screws used for securing this lantern to the column either appeared to be missing entirely, or had been screwed against nothing but thin air.
