Prior to the new lighting being installed, the lighting along this road consisted of 10m tubular steel columns and various 135W SOX lanterns, mainly GEC Z9554Ms. The 10m mounting height was retained when the new lighting was installed. The new lanterns are the 254 size of the Iridium and (presumably as a trial due to the lighting depot being located on nearby Gosforth Road) about half a dozen of these have been fitted with radio monitoring nodes in place of the usual SC1000 photocells.

The lanterns had only been installed for a short time when the photographs were taken but the canopies had already been defaced by perching birds!
