Local Philips SRX 204s

Six disused SRX 204s can be seen attached to the (currently mothballed) Riverside Car Park in Derby City Centre, where they provided illumination to the roadway (Morledge) below. They were deactivated as part of Derby's Street Lighting PFI replacement work; becoming abandoned by 2008, meaning that they saw less than ten years' service - they were installed in 1998 as part of the car park's construction. The car park replaced a much smaller single-level affair that was located in the centre of the Cock Pitt roundabout; this being built on the site of the old Ice Factory, which had become derelict by 1975, and was destroyed in a fire that year.

The rather forlorn fittings are still secured to the undersides of the rolled steel joists that support the car park structure above, while their replacements can be seen illuminating the gloom of the underpass.

The severed cables emerging from this fitting prove that it is no longer operational.

The glass covers for the middle and left-hand fittings on this side of the road. A bus caught fire here in 2024; the heat of which may have caused the covers to detach.

Zooming in on the label allows the fittings to be identified positively, and reveals that each one runs a 400 Watt SON-T (tubular high pressure sodium) lamp. The date code '8F' (June 1998) is visible on the top-right of the label. The factory code 'ML' identifies these fittings as having been produced at the Lyon (France) facility.
