174EB. Off Wharf Road, Acocks Green, Hay Mills, Birmingham, West Midlands With thanks to Leo Conway for informing me of this Survivor. Attached to a building, and aimed at an adjacent compound, opposite Dorothy Road, is an Atlas / Thorn M30/F floodlight. Sadly, it is now devoid of a lamp, but when in use, this would have been a 140 or 200 Watt SLI/H (linear low pressure sodium) type. Given that these particular lamps ceased production in the 1980s, the fitting probably became disused after the last lamp failed, and remaining stocks at local wholesalers had run out. Despite this, the floodlight appears to be in good, complete condition.
The building to which this fitting is attached was part of a joinery works in the past, but was a coal yard before that. The current arrangement seems to be that the yard area is now home to two separate businesses; neither of which is related to the building supporting the floodlight.
Although the floodlight's outer bodywork is rusted, internally, everything looks pristine - just a shame that there is no lamp present!
The possible remains of another wall-mounted light are positioned immediately above the M30.
As I understand it, the cast aluminium end sections are removable once three thumbscrews are loosened, which in turn, allows the lamp to be slid out.
