31D. Crankhall Lane, Wednesbury, Sandwell, West Midlands Although many Stanton 1808 25 ft (8 m) concrete columns still survived along this road in 2023, very few retained their earlier lanterns; the majority of them supported Philips Lumistreet gen2 LED lanterns by then. One exception was a column supporting a 1980s' Thorn Alpha 1 90 Watt SOX lantern, which still appeared to be in nightly service.

The veteran Alpha 1's golden sodium light must provide a stark contrast to the cool white light emitted by the LED lanterns.

Sadly, the acrylic 'Opticell' lamp housing is damaged, which has caused dirt to gather within it.
