40A. Danford Heath / Pound Street, Claverley, Shropshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Although much of the lighting throughout this village is now (in July 2025) of a faux-heritage type, two older installations continue to operate; both of which use GEC Z8896 lanterns, for 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps. A Simplex Diadem also existed on The Paddocks, though its column had been removed completely by the above date.
The Danford Heath example was fitted to a sleeved Stanton 7 concrete column.
This is likely to be quite a late example of a Z8896 (it could even be an OSRAM-branded version if made in the early 1990s), given its attachment to the sleeve bracket - although sleeving did exist in the 1980s, its use didn't begin in earnest until a decade later.
The detector for a Royce Thompson P42E two-part photocell is visible on the Z8896's canopy.
Conversely, the Stanton 7 is an earlier example, dating from the late 1940s - early 1950s, as it features a wider base than on later examples, and uses a steel door instead of the later aluminium types.
Moving onto Pound Street, at the other end of the village, and the Z8896 there was fitted to a rather lengthy pole bracket.
The bracket is an AC Ford type, and because of its considerable length, two support struts are fitted, instead of the usual one.
This Z8896 features a painted canopy and Zodion SS6 one-part photocell, which is rated at 55 Lux.
