70AAA. Millpool Close, Hagley, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Situated on this private cul-de-sac are two 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 10 concrete columns, with both supporting a 'Beaufort' lantern produced by Falk Stadelmann and Co. Ltd (Falks), probably in the 1960s. These appear to be the version that used a 25 inch (635 mm) diameter canopy section, although 20 and 34 inch (508 and 864 mm respectively) versions were also produced. The Beaufort 25 could accommodate GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamps of 60 - 200 Watt, as well as 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) and 45 - 60 Watt SO/V (low pressure sodium) lamps.
The two columns are positioned quite closely together near the communal garage blocks. Curiously, no other exterior lighting (save for a few building-mounted modern floodlights) exists on the road.
The left-hand column is positioned alongside a later post supporting two CCTV cameras.
Both lanterns are fitted with elliptical lamps. While these could be MBFs, they could also be self-ballasting mercury (MBFT) lamps, and in that case, may have replaced GLS lamps.
The right-hand column has a very slight lean to it.
Although two bowl options were available for the Beaufort lantern, along with the choice of having an exposed lamp surrounded by a prismatic glass refractor ring, a bare lamp within the lantern without any other form of optical control or protection was a further possibility, and this is the type that these examples seem to be.
Although the underside of the aluminium canopy shows signs of corrosion, and the steelwork is rusty, the installations are in good condition, and no spalling or other degradation is visible on the columns.
