97KFA. Old Penkridge Road, Broomhill, Cannock, Staffordshire With thanks to Claire Pendrous for informing me of these Survivors. Still extant in December 2004 were three of this road's original 1930s' 10 ft (3·048 m) lighting columns, which also still supported their original swan neck brackets and Revo 'Lodestar' C2626 / C7186 (the catalogue number depends on their diameter - whether they were the 14 or 18 inch (355·6 mm or 457·2) type) reflector lanterns, designed for running 100 Watt GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamps, although they ended their days running self-ballasting mercury vapour (MBFT) lamps of the same wattage instead.

All three of the columns were painted the light green shade that was common throughout Staffordshire in the past.

The swan neck bracket appears to use an AC Ford finial.

The slightly conical reflector that would have existed above the lamp was missing, exposing the inside of the top section.

The initials for Cannock Urban District Council are cast into the door of the Moseley column.

The second column was a little further along the road.

This swan neck featured a slightly different finial design, with an elongated curl beyond the lantern's termination point. This finial design was listed as the B18 in Revo catalogues.

The reflector was still extant on this Lodestar, and was in reasonable condition, with only a few rust spots visible in the enamel.

The final example was opposite the newer Kilmorie Road junction.

A Neighbourhood Watch sign had been affixed in front of the ladder bars.

A curled finial was also present here.

The corrosion was worse on this reflector, with the rust patches being larger in size, and in greater numbers.

All three of the Lodestar lanterns were saved by Claire, ultimately.
