Station Row, off Holme Houses, Strickland Ketel, Burneside, Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria With thanks to Alan Hilton for informing me of this Survivor. Attached to a building on this narrow access is a Thorn Beta 4 lantern supported by an AC Ford bracket, with the adjoining aluminium enclosure housing the electricity supply cut-out and 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp control gear also being an AC Ford product. The installation is likely to date to the 1970s, and remains in virtually original condition.
This is the only street light in this small courtyard area.
The bracket is shaped to take the gutter overhang of the property into account.
The bowl employed has not discoloured, allowing the lamp to remain visible. It does feature a slight stippled texture, however.
The translucent cone to the Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell detector suggests that it is an early example of the P42, and could be the Beta 4's original photocell.
Alan provided an interior view of the control box - remarkably, the box is that well sealed against dirt and water ingress that the components look as if they have only just been fitted!
