Hallam Fields Road, Ilkeston, Erewash, Derbyshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of this Survivor. Installed adjacent the Erewash Canal is a long-abandoned 25 ft (8 m) Stanton 8 concrete column supporting a D-type side-entry bracket. No lantern remains attached to the bracket, and the base has been stripped of all former components. The installation's years of neglect now mean that it is in poor condition, with the concrete around the top of the column, and on the bracket, having spalled heavily. Given that Hallam Fields Road served as the northern boundary of the once-expansive Stanton Ironworks site, where this column was manufactured, the installation was probably in the ownership of the ironworks until the land occupied by Stanton began to reduce in size towards the end of the 20th Century.
The column is the only surviving example on this part of the roads - no other concrete columns were to be found.
Numerous vertical structural cracks have developed in both the column and bracket.
The bracket is seen to face back down Hallam Fields Road.
The column's vertical crack extends a considerable distance downwards.
The backboard has been removed from the column base, with only the remains of the supply cable (and a drinks can - probably not original) still being extant within this area.
