Various locations around Rugby Road, Great Cornard, Barbergh, Suffolk With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. This estate, as well as the nearby road of Queensway, were still home to many 15 ft (5 m) sheet steel columns supporting ELECO HW-918 lanterns in July 2025. While these lanterns would have run 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps originally, all now seem to have been fitted with elliptical high pressure sodium (SON-E) lamps instead; possibly, re-using the MBF gear, meaning that internal-ignitor SON lamps would be required. Although this setup will 'work', the SON lamps are being overdriven in this scenario; the operating voltage for a 70 Watt SON lamp being around 90 Volts, compared to an 80 Watt MBF, which has an operating voltage of around 115 Volts. The SON running current is a little higher than an MBF lamp is too; the difference being around 0.18 Amps.

The first couple of installations are on Perryfield, with the column below being at the end of the road, near some garages.

A small patch of brown dirt has accumulated inside the otherwise transparent Perspex bowl.

Further along the road, this identical installation is to be found.

The outreach brackets are welded to the column spigots.

The lamp is just visible within the grubby bowl.

Around the corner, on Rugby Road, this example was to be seen. More casual replacements existed along this main spine road, but HW-918s were still holding on.

As is typical, all metalwork is painted the light Suffolk green.

This example was a short distance further south.

The lampholder is misaligned within the lantern.

The lamp itself is a Philips product.

The same lantern, as seen from the side.
