Off Holbrook Lane, Albion Industrial Estate, Foleshill, Daimler Green, Coventry, West Midlands With thanks to 'Aleksander' for informing me of this Survivor. Installed at the far corner of a yard surrounding an industrial premises is a 25 ft sectional conical steel 'Adastra' column, made by Poles Ltd., and supporting a GEC Z8128B 'Clearmain' lantern, for 250 - 400 Watt mercury vapour (MA / MB) and 500 Watt GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamps. Unlike my own example, which dates back to 1952, and features a bowl with parallel sides, this example's bowl has tapered sides instead, suggesting that it is a later version. Historical maps indicate that this site has been home to industrial buildings for many years, though the current one appears to be a later rebuild, with the old column surviving this alteration. Of course, other identical installations may have existed in the past too, but if they did, these were not as lucky.

Despite the ravages of time, the column is in good condition for its age - the thick steel sections likely to have proven a strong defensive barrier against corrosion.

The Adastra columns often feature a decorative finial section above the bracket; this example is no exception.

The internal enamelled reflector can be seen to have become dislodged slightly within the lantern. A few twists of string - possibly, wisps from the internal sealing gasket - are visible at the back of the bowl.

"Adastra V3B" is cast into the top section.

A small puddle of rainwater is trapped at the lowest part of the bowl.
