97KDA. Penkridge Bank Road, Rugeley, Slitting Mill, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Located at the eastern edge of the Cannock Chase woodland are two 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 10 concrete columns and F-type side-entry brackets, with both supporting a lantern from GEC's 'Clearside' Z9480 series, which was designed to run a single 45 - 60 Watt SO/H / SOI/H (low pressure sodium) lamp originally, but now run 26 Watt SOX-E lamps (the more energy-saving version of the 35 Watt SOX lamp, which served as the direct replacement to the earlier 60 Watt lamp. At the time of photographing in May 2025, these 1960s' installations were living on borrowed time, with many further Stanton 10s to the west of these installations having been replaced with 6 m tubular steel columns earlier in the year.

The positioning of the columns is unusual - all are installed on the opposite side of the road to the footway, where the lighting would be of greater use to any pedestrians traversing the area after nightfall.

The lampholder appears to be loose, or positioned incorrectly within the lantern, as the lamp is at a slight diagonal angle within the lantern.

The natural greenery provides a backdrop to the installation when it is viewed from the other side of the road.

A sizeable amount of sealing compound is visible between the column and bracket. A small portion of the front of the canopy is missing.

The second surviving installation falls just on the approach into the 30 mph speed limit.

The bowl on this example is in grubbier condition, creating a more translucent appearance.
