97KDB. Off Byron Close, Rugeley, Cannock Chase, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of this Survivor. Located roughly equidistant between Byron Close and Harney Court on a footpath linking the two is a 5 m mid-hinged sheet steel Stainton (Petitjean) column supporting a GEC Z5698U post-top lantern, for 35 - 55 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps. This looked to be the last example of a Z5698U on this estate, when previously, such lanterns were common on the various footpath links. With these fittings being a primary reason for my street lighting interest, naturally, at hearing of the existence of this example in July 2025, I was especially keen to pay a visit, and was pleased that it was still extant at the time.

A sight that I knew all too well, and of which is lamented considerably.

The bowl is a little grubby internally, but still looks relatively discoloured, despite the polycarbonate having been exposed to around forty years of the sun's rays at the time of photographing.

The extra length of these lanterns was what allowed 55 Watt lamps to be used, although with the lamp positioned vertically, illumination levels on the ground are unlikely to have been vastly different with 35 Watt lamps fitted, which is what is used here (or at least, a 26 Watt SOX-E 'Economy' lamp).
