Off Wellington Road, Donnington and Muxton, Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire With thanks to LeoLampposts for informing me of these Survivors. Installed in a rather expansive car park for an adjacent Bingo hall are a number of 1980s' 5 m tubular steel columns supporting Thorn Gamma 3 post-top lanterns, for 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) or SON (high pressure sodium) lamps. All but one of the columns are fitted with their (likely) original Gamma 3s, though this mounting height is unusual for such lanterns - it being intended for 8 m columns instead. The shorter mounting height here was probably chosen to provide high, and uniform, light levels over the entire car park without proving too glary for nearby properties.
Five columns, all topped with a Gamma 3, are visible here (the fifth is obscured partially by the trees in the background).
This foreground example has a slightly mossy bowl and canopy, but is otherwise in good condition.
The black powder coating finish applied to the base casting of the left-hand lantern is in notably better condition than it is on that of the above lantern.
This column is positioned at the start of the wide grass verge that exists between the car park and Wellington Road itself.
A slight green patch also exists on the underside of this bowl.
This column is at the far end of this part of the car park.
The final two columns supporting Gamma 3s are seen below; the one column that features a replacement lantern is just out of view, to the right.
The roof of the building that serves as the Bingo hall provides a backdrop for this Gamma 3; formerly, the building was the Globe Cinema. This was built during the Second World War before being converted to its present use in 1979.
The cinema must have been popular with military personnel staying at the nearby Donnington barracks. A short road that allows access to a telephone exchange is lit with ELECO GR 550 lanterns running 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps, and attached to 15 ft (also 5 m) 'Byway-X' concrete columns, made by Concrete Utilities. The image below of one of the columns is taken from Google Street View.
