Gipping Way, Sproughton, Barbergh, Suffolk With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Located on this cul-de-sac are three Chalmit / Davis post-top lanterns - two of these being PT1180s, and one 'Highbeam' PT1197. Given that this company absorbed a limited number of ELECO products when that company exited the Street Lighting market in the 1980s, two of these lanterns are likely to be replacements for older types, though the third could be original to its column.
The Highbeam is attached to a 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 10 concrete column at the junction of Church Lane.
Adding a Telensa Telecell switching system to this lantern has resulted in a rather untidy internal appearance, owing to the cell's wires having not been secured properly.
The first PT1180 is attached to a newer sheet steel column just after the short spur cul-de-sac.
The ELECO lineage with this range of lanterns is very apparent.
The base casting was revised slightly, however; not least, to include the Davis logo.
Another Stanton 10 column is to be found at the roadway loop at the end of the road. The column has a minor lean, but nothing of particular concern.
This could be an earlier PT1180, as the bowl shows heavier discolouration, and the base casting is different again.
The Telecell's duplicate barcode sticker has been applied to the top of the column door.
