Off Corporation Street, New Bilton, Newbold-on-Avon, Rugby, Warwickshire With thanks to 'Aleksander' for informing me of these Survivors. Located in the car park of a derelict 1960s' office block - the former Crown House (and later, Cemex House) complex - are four 25 ft (8 m) Stanton 8 concrete columns, each supporting a CU Phosco (Phosware) P179 lantern, being accommodate single or twin 200 Watt GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamps, up to 400 Watt SON (high pressure sodium), MBF (mercury vapour) or MBI (metal halide) lamps, when the lamp control gear was installed remotely, a 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamp, one or two 250 Watt SON, MBF or MBI lamps (the twin lamp version only being available with remotely-geared examples once again), two 55 Watt SOX lamps, or two 125 Watt MBF lamps, making it a rather versatile product. In the case of these, I would hazard a guess that they each ran a single 250 Watt MBF lamp, given the likely age of the installations. Sadly, the lighting is doomed, as plans to construct a supermarket on the site are approved.
The first of two of four of the columns to be pictured is close to the site's Corporation Street entrance, with the rather sorry-looking office building providing a backdrop.
The black paint applied to the P179's metalwork remains virtually intact.
The second column visible from this position was set further into the car park.
This too looked to be in fantastic condition, as was its column.
